Event: Women’s Empowerment and Community Dialogue

Overview

On 5 September 2026, we held a meaningful community meeting with Catholic women in Dar es Salaam to discuss ways of working together to amplify the voices of women who are often unheard, vulnerable, neglected, or facing different forms of hardship and discrimination.

The meeting provided an opportunity for women to come together, share their experiences, listen to one another, and explore practical ways of creating opportunities that can improve their social and economic well-being.

Creating Opportunities for Women

One of the key topics discussed was the importance of women having their own productive activities and sources of income within their families and communities. Having an opportunity to work, create, or contribute economically can help women develop confidence, feel valued, and participate more actively in decisions affecting their families and communities.

During the discussions, several women shared experiences of feeling left behind, neglected, or without a sense of purpose, particularly when they do not have opportunities to engage in meaningful activities that can improve their circumstances.

These conversations reminded us that empowerment is not only about financial support. It is also about creating an environment where women can discover their abilities, learn new skills, support one another, and recognize their own value.

From Conversation to Action

The meeting resulted in a shared commitment to begin creating practical opportunities for women within the community.

We agreed to start by supporting one another and sharing skills, including teaching and learning different forms of handcrafts and other practical activities. These skills can become a starting point for small-scale entrepreneurship and provide women with opportunities to turn their abilities into productive activities.

Rather than waiting for opportunities to come from outside, the initiative encourages women to begin building opportunities together, using the skills, knowledge, and resources already available within the community.

Building Economic and Emotional Well-Being

Through these collective efforts, we hope to contribute to greater economic independence, confidence, and social connection among women.

Creating productive opportunities can also provide women with a greater sense of purpose and belonging. By learning together, working together, and encouraging one another, women can build supportive networks where challenges are discussed openly and solutions are explored collectively.

The initiative also recognizes that personal well-being is closely connected to social and economic circumstances. Giving women opportunities to participate, create, and contribute can be an important part of promoting positive emotional and social well-being.

Looking Ahead

This meeting was not intended to be a one-time conversation. It marked the beginning of a collective effort to identify practical ways of supporting women within our communities.

We look forward to developing more activities focused on skills sharing, handcrafts, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and community support, while creating spaces where women can continue to speak openly about the challenges they experience.

Together, We Can Make a Difference

Every woman deserves an opportunity to be heard, to learn, to contribute, and to develop her potential.

By standing together, sharing what we know, creating opportunities, and supporting one another, we can help raise the voices of women who are often unheard and build stronger, more supportive communities.

Together, we can create opportunities.

Together, we can support one another.

Together, we can raise women’s voices.
